About the Book
What does Mo do soon after arriving in Scotland? Find hidden human bones, of course!
Meeting the in-laws is stressful enough, but when your boyfriend’s family home is a castle with hidden passageways, ghost stories, and a real-life skeleton bricked up in a wall, things get really interesting.
Pepper arrives in Scotland with Ian, Mo, Amy, and Beau, ready for a warm welcome, some sightseeing, and maybe even a kilt or two. Instead, she finds herself smack in the middle of a decades-old murder mystery when a woman’s remains are unearthed at Ian’s family estate—thanks to Mo’s impeccable nose for trouble. The locals insist it’s the Dead Duchess, a vengeful ghost with a grudge, but Pepper isn’t buying it. This has cold case written all over it.
The real kicker? The last person to possibly see the woman before she vanished was either Ian’s late Uncle Max or his wife, Trudy. And considering Trudy spent more time in Scotland than with her husband in Willow Lake, the motive puts them high on the suspect list. Now, with Ian’s crime-show-loving mother fully on board (finally, someone who gets her), Pepper and the gang start digging through the past to find out what really happened.
But when clues lead them back to Willow Lake, PA, it’s clear this mystery isn’t done with them yet. Someone in town has been keeping secrets—deadly ones—and they’re not about to let Pepper unearth the truth without a fight.
Between dodging suspicious locals, Mo making sure he’s front and center in the hunt, and tracking down Ian’s Uncle Max’s lost manuscripts—which just might hold the key to solving the murder—Pepper’s got her hands full. But one thing’s for sure… this isn’t just an old ghost story. It’s an old murder—old enough that the killer should be dead.
So why does it feel like he isn’t?
Unless, of course, the culprit is a ghost. And that’s not likely… or is it?
